Get to Know Us
We are Andy and Teresa, a husband and wife team. We homestead and raise a flock of about 100 sheep on our farm in the Finger Lakes Region of New York.
Together, we care for our sheep to assure they are healthy and happy, raising them with natural care methods and pampering them with love and attention.
We pasture rotate our sheep several times a week to provide them with a fresh supply of green grass most of the year. The harsh winter months, we protect them in a large spacious barn. We spend time watching over them daily during their winter pregnancy and during their lambing period .
Lambing is a delight for us, it brings us a bounty of adorable lambs in a wide variety of colors and markings. Our Finnsheep have large litters, so we spend a lot of time in the barn with them to be sure all the lambs are always thriving and their mothers are strong and healthy. Besides their so cute we cant stay away.
We dye some of our yarns using mostly hand pick plants that either grow wild in the fields or that we raise in our gardens. These natural plant dye colors accentuate our natural sheep colored yarns perfectly. On occasion, we use a splash of plant dye extracts for a special colorway. But our fresh indigo dye we grow in our gardens is one of our favorites.
We share a lot more about ourselves and Ironwood Hill Farm on Facebook and Instagram. We invite you to join us there for lots of photos of our sheep and especially are wonderful yarns!
